“The first space ace”. On September 13, 1985, an F-15 piloted by Major Doug Pearson successfully destroyed the Solwind P78-1 satellite using an ASM-135 missile during a test over the Pacific Ocean. This marked the first successful anti-satellite missile test, demonstrating the capability to target satellites in orbit.
